Germany’s unemployment rate at record low

5 January 2018

The unemployment rate in Germany has dropped to a record low, falling to 5.5 percent in December from 5.6 percent the previous month. The country’s unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been since the 1990 reunification. The latest figures released from the Labor Office show that there were 761,000 job vacancies in December. The trend is expected to continue this year, with real wages also forecasted to increase. The growth will likely impact wages in the neighboring Czech Republic, with employers boosting pay in the hopes of preventing workers from relocating to Germany, according to local news reports.
