Germany unveils loan guarantee program to support Serbian entrepreneurs

16 July 2020

German Ambassador to Serbia Thomas Schieb stated that his country would provide small and medium-sized companies in Serbia with €5 million in additional bank guarantees through the German Development Bank (KfW). He made the announcement on the Newsmax program, explaining that the funds would be provided in a way that would allow domestic banks to lend to local companies.

For its part, the National Bank of Serbia announced it was considering a program that would ease the pressure on citizens to pay off existing loans. The idea is to make it possible for people to extend their loan repayment by two years, which would also reduce the total size of one’s monthly installments. The bank said that housing loans would not be included in the program.
