GLP started building a logistics center in Ostrava-Hrušov for more than a billion

7 October 2021

GLP, an investor and developer of logistics buildings and warehouses, has begun construction of a logistics center on a land after a chemical plant in Ostrava-Hrušov. The costs will exceed one billion crowns, and around 1,000 people should find work in the complex. The construction itself was preceded by months of demanding decontamination work. GLP Park Ostrava Hrušov is to be completed in the first quarter of next year.

“The total investment in the construction of the project will be around EUR 40 – 45 million (approximately one billion – 1.15 billion crowns), the dispersion is due to the rapid rise in prices of building materials and works,” said GLP press representative Jan Hlaváč.

According to him, the specific number and focus of jobs will depend on the tenants of the premises: it can be logistics, technological development, light industrial production, but also administrative positions. The complex will have 92,000 square meters of space. The construction will meet the highest construction standards, the buildings will be up to 17.4 meters high.

“They will have the most modern technologies that will ensure safety and low operating costs. In addition, the entire complex will meet the strictest requirements for environmental protection,” said GLP Director for the Czechia and Slovakia Jan Palek. The complex is located near the center of Ostrava and has good transport accessibility thanks to the close connection to the D1 motorway and the railway.

“We believe that the multi-purpose logistics and production complex will create new jobs and thus contribute to the modernization of the city district and the region. In addition, the complex is easily accessible, including by public transport. said the mayor of the Silesian Ostrava district, Richard Vereš (YES).

There used to be chemical plants on the site, which until 1996 produced and processed nitric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, formic acid, sodium sulphate, barium chloride and other chemicals. However, the soil remained polluted after the chemical plant. “Therefore, before the start of construction, we carried out costly revitalization and decontamination work, which removed the old ecological burden,” said Palek.
