Google launches $100m fund geared toward EU startups

11 July 2014

Google Ventures, the global IT giant’s investment arm, is launching a $100m fund dedicated to European startups. Google is hoping to secure a stake in the region’s growing startup market, which has been recently showing greater potential, despite a lack of capital investors.

“To help support the next generation of European entrepreneurs, today Google Ventures is launching a new venture fund, with initial funding of $100m. Our goal is simple: we want to invest in the best ideas from the best European entrepreneurs, and help them bring those ideas to life,” said Bill Maris, managing partner at Google Ventures. “We believe Europe’s startup scene has enormous potential. We’ve seen compelling new companies emerge from places like London, Paris, Berlin, the Nordic region and beyond — SoundCloud, Spotify, Supercell and many others.”
