Government considers forming new energy authority

11 January 2013

The Hungarian government announced that it is considering establishing a new unified energy authority. The authority would combine the Hungarian Energy Office, the Hungarian Mining and Geological Office and the National Atomic Energy Office. However, no final decision has been made yet. The director of the Nuclear Technology Institute at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Attila Aszódi, said, however, that merging the National Atomic Energy Office with the Hungarian Energy Office would go against international treaties.
