The numbers of Hungarian university applicants has fallen by 32,000 this year. This is probably due to new education reforms, including the introduction of university fees and a limited number of places. The decrease was higher than previously thought by the government. There is also discontent over the reduction of financial aid for students. The number of those receiving support from the state is being slashed, and the aid has become conditional on students remaining and working in Hungary.
