Government Hungarian expenditures compared to GDP just over EU average

The Hungarian government spent the equivalent of 50.1 percent of the country’s GDP last year, according to the latest Eurostat report. About 13.7 percent of government expenditures was for economic affairs. Social protection expenditures constituted one-third of total government spending, while healthcare and education expenditures constituted 10.4 percent and 9.5 percent respectively.
Government spending in Hungary was higher than the Czech Republic (42.0 percent), Poland (41.8 percent) and Slovakia (41.8 percent). The Finnish government spent the most (58.7 percent), while the Romanian government spent the least at 34.9 percent.
