The Hungarian government is prepared to support co-operative societies and would establish employment co-operatives under a new bill introduced by Tibor Navracsics, the Minister of Public Administration and Justice. The government argues that the 293 registered co-op associations are unable to fulfill their original role, claiming the system has disintegrated and that the co-ops are unable to push disadvanteged employees to find a job. The social co-ops are supposed to create workplaces for these people and to help them in other ways, filling a perceived need for organizations which care about things other than profiteering.
