Greece closes its borders to Serbia

6 July 2020

Greece closed its border to Serbia on Monday after the number of cases of Coronavirus-19 there increased dramatically. Greece was also acting on information that a large number of Serbian tourists had tested positive. Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that the Cabinet of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had officially informed the Serbian Embassy in Athens of the decision.

Serbs who have special reasons for visiting will be allowed to apply for an entry permit. Dacic warned Serbs not to attempt to cross into Greece any more and so to avoid the situation in which large numbers of their compatriots are being turned back at the border. He added that those who are already in Greece as tourists will be remain until their normally scheduled trips.
