The city of Cluj has decided that Green Building owners will pay only half the tax on buildings, starting with fiscal year 2013.
The decision, the first of its kind in Romania, can be applied only to buildings that live up to the standards set by the three most-highly recognized ranking systems worldwide: LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment and Method) and DGNB (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Nachhaltiges Bauen).
For legal entities, the City Council determined the minimum tax under the Tax Code, the building labeled as class A energy category and which has an official certification recognized worldwide as a “green building” beginning in the tax year of 2013.
For individuals, the City Council grants a 50 percent reduction for tax on people who live in buildings that have been recognized as a green building.
Again, the tax reduction can be applied for the first time to tax returns for the year 2013.
