The Czech Highway Authority (RSD) is planning to expand the motorways leading into Prague to three lanes in each direction in the coming years. This includes the D11, which connects the capital with Hradec KrĂĄlovĂ©. Currently, it offers six lanes of traffic only until the 8th kilometer Jirny exit, but the RSD will be expanding the road all the way to PodÄbrady to handled increased traffic loads. Work isnât expected to begin until after 2025, but towns along the road are already being informed. Similar expansions will be carried out on the D8, while the D10 should become a 6-lane motorway all the way to MladĂĄ Boleslav and the D5 will be widened all the way to Beroun. The RSD is also looking at widening portions of the Prague bypass, specifically the sections between the D5 and D7 motorways. The state-owned company is reacting to increasingly heavy traffic which is causing congestion and back-ups along the edge of Prague with ever greater frequency.
