In December 2020, average paid employment in enterprise sector was lower by 1.0 percent y/y and amounted to 6329.0 thousand, while average gross wages and salaries were higher by 6.6 percent y/y and amounted to 5973.75 PLN, according to Statistics Office (GUS). In December 2020, average paid employment in enterprise sector minimally increased by 0.2 percent compared to the one noted month before, while in November 2020 was close to the one in October same year. In December 2020, compared to the corresponding period of 2019, a continued decline in average paid employment was observed (by 1.0 percent), but to a slightly lower degree than in November 2020 (by 1.2 percent).Due to the epidemic situation and its impact on the labour market, from March to May 2020 there was a decrease in the average paid employment month on month, while in the subsequent months of 2020 its increase began to be observed which was continued also in December 2020 and amounted to 10 thousand full-time jobs. Such changes in the average paid employment during the year did not occur in the previous years. In December 2020, compared to the previous month an increase in average gross wages and salaries in enterprise sector was noted (by 8.9 percent). It was caused among others by payment of bonuses, quarterly, annual, jubilee and discretionary awards, and also retirement severance pays (which beside the base remuneration are also included as components of wages and salaries). This phenomenon is observed every year during this period, informed GUS.
