CSO: Exports of oils, fats, waxes grew fastest in January-March – by 66.3% y/y

Warsaw, May 16, 2023 (ISBnews) – The fastest export growth in January-March 2023 was in oils, fats, animal and vegetable waxes (by 66.3%), the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported. In January-March 2023, merchandise turnover according to the SITC nomenclature, compared to the same period in 2022, saw increases in most commodity sections in exports. In imports, increases were recorded in 5 sections.

In exports, the largest increases were in oils, fats, animal and vegetable waxes (up 66.3%), beverages and tobacco (up 35.4%), food and live animals (up 27.1%), mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (up 25.3%), machinery and transport equipment (up 19.1%), miscellaneous industrial products (up 8.9%), chemicals and related products (up 2.8%), industrial goods classified mainly by raw material (up 0.7%). The decrease was in non-edible raw materials except for fuels (down 10.8%), and goods and transactions not classified in SITC (down 37%).

In imports, the largest increases were recorded in mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (up 33.7%), beverages and tobacco (up 25.8%), food and live animals (up 24.3%), machinery and transport equipment (up 10.9%), and animal and vegetable oils, fats, waxes (up 6.8%). The largest decline was in goods and transactions not classified in the SITC (down 49.6%), industrial goods classified mainly by raw material (down 12.6%), non-edible raw materials except fuels (down 4.9%), miscellaneous industrial products (down 0.8%), and chemicals and related products (down 0.3%), the Office reported.

The GUS reported today that exports rose 8.5% y/y to 88.7 billion euros in January-March 2023, while imports fell 0.7% y/y to 85.9 billion euros in the period.
