The Galerie Harfa shopping center in Prague has been awarded a LEED Gold for Existing Buildings: Operation & Maintenance. Tamir Winterstein, CEO of Lighthouse Group was presented with the certificate yesterday, saying only 24 other shopping centers in the world had managed such an achievement. Martin Scheuch, a partner at the project management company Sentient said the certificated is based on actual performance and not simply calculations made on paper.
Winterstein says that cost cutting was key for Lighthouse, the owner and the operator of the center and that it was also important for the malls’ tenants. “A tenant in a 200 sqm units saves CZK 50,000 annually thanks to the optimization of the whole building,” says Winterstein. Energy saving measures have reduced energy consumption by 6.1 percent, lowered water consumption and improved interior environment in the building.
