The court in Havlíčkův Brod sentenced five men to two years’ probation due to the collapse of the bridge in Vilémov. The judges initially acquitted them of the charges. Four workers died under the bridge in an accident in 2014, and two others were injured. Four defendants, who are construction company workers, immediately appealed, the fifth of them and the public prosecutor will consider the appeal. The district court dealt with the case again based on the decision of the superior regional court.

The proceedings with five other defendants have already been legally terminated, two construction managers received suspended sentences.

In 2014, the nearly 90-year-old arched bridge over the Hostačovka river in Vilémov underwent reconstruction, which was part of the modernization of the second-class road 345 between Chotěboří and Golčový Jeníkov. The Vysočina region awarded the contract for more than 200 million crowns to a consortium of construction companies M-Silnice and Strabag. The bridge was repaired as a subcontractor by Bögl & Krýsl.
