HB Reavis begins demolition of Transgas building

27 March 2019

HB Reavis has begun with the demolition of the Transgas building on Vinohradská street in Prague’s 2nd district. Work on tearing the 1970’s building is expected to last until the fall, but it’s unclear who will be the owner of the land it sits on by the time that happens. HB Reavis has decided to sell the project it’s been working on as part of a wider sell-off of assets in Prague, where it’s been unable to find projects big enough to justify being included in its widening plans for expansion. Local pressure groups fought to save the Transgas building from the wrecking ball, but even the Czech Ministry of Culture concluded that the building did not contribute anything positive to its surroundings and refused to include it on the list of protected monuments. Bids from the city for the property weren’t high enough to interest the owner.
