HB Reavis seeks demolition permit for Transgas

25 July 2018

HB Reavis has applied for permission to demolish the Transgas buildings on Vinohradská třídě in Prague 2. If the application is approved, work on the building’s removal could begin by August. The buildings would be replaced by a new set of buildings that the developer claims would fit into the surroundings far more sensitively based on a design by Jakub Cigler Architekti. However, local pressure groups are trying to block the demolition, claiming the old Transgas headquarters are a valuable example of Brutalist architecture. The Czech Ministry of Culture refused to label the property as a cultual monument claiming it had no deep artistic value.
