Chinese company HBIS is investing $120m to develop a new ecological plant in Smederevo, eastern Serbia. HBIS President Wang Lani, Chen Bo, China’s ambassador to Belgrade, and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic attended the foundation stone ceremony. HBIS Group bought Serbian steel manufacturing conglomerate Zelezara Smederevo in 2016 and has since invested €150m into the company, which employs more than 5,000 people.
