With Prague’s mayor Adriana Krnáčová from the ANO party expected to resign shortly, the city will most probably be governed by a minority coalition led by the TOP 09 party. TOP 09 is currently negotiating with a trio of parties (known as the Triple Coalition) which had until now been part of Prague’s governing regime with ANO and the Social Democrats. The Pirate party (not a joke party) could also take part in the new coalition.
Václav Novotný or Jiří Nouza (both TOP 09) are candidates for the mayorial position. The server aktualne.cz writes that the coalition would rely on the support of other smaller parties not currently in the ruling coalition.
The names of the city’s new council is to be announced on January 28. The current coalition led by Adriana Krnáčová began to fall apart in October when four of the 11 city councillors were forced to resign following a dispute between Krnáčová and her deputy for urban planning Matěj Stropnický.
