Heating season has started in Prague, Pražská teplárenská has started supplying heat

9 October 2023

The heating season started today in Prague. In connection with the current temperatures, the Prague district heating company announced the start of heat supply to households. The company said on its website. Other suppliers across the country have also started the heating season in recent days.

The heating season by law lasts from the beginning of September to the end of May. Heating can be restricted or interrupted during this period if the average daily outdoor temperatures in a given location get above 13 degrees Celsius for at least two consecutive days.

“On Monday, October 9, we start this year’s heating season. We continue to closely monitor the development of outdoor temperatures and will respond flexibly in the event of prolonged warmer temperatures. Our transfer stations are equipped with an automatic control system that will regulate the operating equipment and limit the heating in case of an increase in outdoor temperatures to avoid wasting energy,” said Pražská teplárenská. The company also pointed out that for transfer stations not operated by the company, it is necessary to contact their operator first.

Pražská teplárenská is one of the largest district heating networks in the Czech Republic in terms of the number of operated facilities. The company’s activities are concentrated on the capital city of Prague and adjacent areas. The company was bought in 2020 from the Energy and Industrial Holding (EPH) of entrepreneur Daniel Křetínský by Veolia Czech Republic from the French group Veolia.
