Heluz Brick Industry had revenues from the sale of products, services and goods of CZK 2.58 billion last year. It rose by 38 percent year-on-year. Its profit after tax rose 75 percent to 661.5 million. Last year, the company modernised production in Hevlin, South Moravia, and expanded warehouse capacity at all its plants. It expects profits to fall this year. This is according to the annual report. The company is one of the three largest manufacturers of masonry systems on the Czech market.

“The unavailability of financing for new construction for ordinary investors will clearly be reflected in the decreasing demand for building materials across the market. The good results of the past years and the stabilizing situation in the energy market will allow us to get through this period without major problems,” the company said. It plans to take advantage of the lower demand for materials to make long-delayed investments.

The company’s operating profit rose 67 percent year-on-year last year to CZK 666 million. The value of assets rose from CZK 3.8 billion to CZK 4.5 billion year-on-year, according to the annual report.

Heluz Brick Industry is part of the Heluz Group. The brickworks are its most important part. The group also includes Izos, the largest producer of insulating glass in the country, as well as Ciko, which produces brick chimneys. Heluz Group supplies building systems to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Poland and Hungary.

Heluz has a tradition dating back to 1876, when Jan Řehoř built the first kiln and fired the first bricks in Dolní Bukovsko. The family tradition was interrupted by the communists who nationalized the brickworks in 1950. More than 40 years later, the descendants of the founders regained it and entrusted the management to their son-in-law Vladimír Heluz. The company has brickworks in Dolní Bukovsko, Hevlín in Znojmo and Libochovice in Litoměřice. It operates four kilns. Last December, Heluz Brickworks employed 343 people, including 58 women and 285 men.
