Hervis disputes Hungarian sectoral tax

11 September 2012

The Austrian company Hervis is disputing the legality a special crisis tax levied against energy, retail and telecom sectors in Hungary. Hervis claims that the tax impacts foreign businesses more than Hungarian companies. The Hungarian Economy Ministry said it has no intention to amend the tax. “According to the official position of the government, the Hungarian provisions of law disputed by the Commission comply fully with community law,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that it is prepared to defend its position at the European Court of Justice.
