Hornex and Strabag start modernization of Slovak National Gallery

20 January 2016

Hornex and Strabag have begun the reconstruction of Slovak National Gallery (SNG) in Bratislava. The consortium signed a contract with the gallery at the end of December and have now taken over the site. The work is expected to cost €49m, and will be financed from the state budget. The gallery will remain open for the public during the three year modernization, which includes work on the library, the amphitheater, office space and the facility’s historical building of Vodní kasárny. A new 1,800 sqm depository will be added, while the gallery will receive 5,400 sqm of new exhibition space and a congress hall. The modernization should have begun in 2007, the financial crisis forced the government to put the project on hold.
