Raúl Martins, President of Altis Hotel, will be running for president of the General Council of the Hospitality Association of Portugal (AHP). “My first goal is to consolidate the presence of the Association of Hotels in the seven tourist regions in Portugal,” said Raúl Martins. “We are concerned with the liberalization of local accommodation. We can not accept that local housing is installed without the acceptance of the joint owners.” The competitiveness of the hotel industry, the workload and the seasonality of the sector, support from EU funds and the VAT will be other featured topics. Martins said that the number of tourists coming to the country has good potential and “can clearly increase.” “We want the government to understand the importance of tourism to the Portuguese economy and to give importance to it,” said the presidential candidate of the AHP.
