Hotel occupancy up slightly in 2012

15 January 2013

The average occupancy rate for Czech hotels increased to nearly 43 percent during 2012, a slight jump from the 42.3-percent result reported in 2011. Accommodation prices also rose by 35 percent y-o-y, according to Mag Consulting. Czech hotels occupancy rates were at an all-time low in 2008, with hotels reporting an average rate of 39 percent. Prague topped the 2012 occupancy list, posting 60.3 percent occupancy, followed by the Karlovarský region with 58.1 percent. The Pardubický region had the lowest occupancy rate, reporting that on average only 25.1 percent of its rooms were taken. While accommodation prices increased, the Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurant (AHR CR) says they only grew locally in 2012. The price’s low growth rate can be attributed to flash sales on websites and two VAT increases, according to the AHR CR.
