Hradec Králové Region’s construction output rose by eight percent in January-September

16 January 2023

The output of the largest construction companies in the Hradec Králové Region rose by 7.9 percent year-on-year to CZK 2 billion in the first nine months of last year. The construction industry thus accelerated its growth, which was still four percent in the first half of the year. However, this was a below-average result in the Czech Republic, as the construction sector grew by 18 per cent. The data refer to companies with more than 50 employees. This is based on preliminary data from the Czech Statistical Office.

Despite the growth in performance, construction companies in the Hradec Králové Region made redundancies. By the end of September, they reduced the number of workers by more than six percent to 1,391 people. The productivity of construction firms thus increased by 15 percent despite the growth in performance and the reduction in the number of workers.

The average gross wage of employees in the region’s construction industry rose by 2.4 percent year-on-year to CZK 31,153 in the first three quarters of last year. Wages continued to lag far behind the national average, with the second lowest average wage among the regions after the Karlovy Vary Region. Across the country, wages in the construction sector rose by eight percent year-on-year to CZK 44,051.

In the regional comparison, the value of construction production in the Hradec Králové Region was below average at 13th place. Only construction firms in the Karlovy Vary Region had a lower performance. The reason for the low construction production in the Hradec Králové Region is that there is no large construction company that builds motorways or other large constructions with its own people.
