Hungarian Education Minister says system is working

13 March 2012

Rózsa Hoffmann, Minister of State for Education has assured the public that Hungary’s education system is functioning well, dismissing critics of proposed government reforms. She said the lower number of university applications by students, which fell to 30,000 this year, was not an issue, because the previous flood of applications was always based on unrealistic expectations. Hoffmann countered that the systemic changes that had been implemented, including tougher requirements, would force students to evaluate their chances of success more realistically and lead to more responsible choices.
