Hungarian government taking control of energy policy

5 March 2012

There will be a new climate and energetic policy in Hungary as the leaders of the department of climate politics at the Ministry of National Development were fired last week. Under-secretary Kovács Pál hinted that this is not the time for Hungarian green energy development, but the atom and wind energy could be promising for the country. Pál has also said that the state electricity provider MVM Zrt. could end up taking over the purchase of gas supplies from Russia in 2015, as the government appears determined to spare the electorate what it believes to be unhelpful price hikes in energy prices.
