According to Hungary’s central Statistical Office, the country’s unemployment rate has decreased by 1.0 percentage point to 6.2 percent for the period from September to November. The number of unemployed people was 284,000, 37,000 less than a year earlier. Joblessness among men is lower, but the improvement was more notable among women, falling 20,000 to 132,000, a 1.1 percent decline. The number of 15–74 year-old unemployed men decreased by 17 thousand to 152,000. Expansion of Hungary’s private sector has been reversing its position as one of the EU members worst hit by unemployment.
