Hungary closed its embassy in Damascus this week. “Due to the situation in Syria, the Hungarian Embassy in Damascus has suspended its activities as of December 5, 2012, and its diplomats have left the country,” the Foreign Ministry announced. The European Union said it will reduce diplomatic relations with Syria, and the United Nations is planning to withdraw every non-essential international staff member from the country. Hungarian firms were accused last month of selling arms to Syrian rebels, but the country has firmly denied the charges.
