Antal Rogán, the head of the parliamentary group of the Fidesz ruling party, said Hungary plans to build a new electronic road toll system in a way which will not impact on the national budget. The government doesn’t plans to issue a new tender for the project after the company which won the tender in the first go-around unexpectedly pulled out. Government spokesman András Giró-Szász said the cabinet is not willing to take part in any any more “slapstick comedy” and “will sort this problem out itself by using its own resources.”
The Development Ministry is in talks with T-Systems, a subsidiary of the telecom company Magyar Telekom, as well as Kapsch. However, it is unlikely that the e-toll system will be operational by July 1, as originally planned.
