Hungary plans energy cooperation with Qatar

29 January 2013

Peter Szijjártó, state secretary for external economic relations, signed a declaration of intent with Qatar’s energy minister. “Qatar, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter, could be a crucial player in efforts to increase Hungary’s energy security,” Szijjártó said. He added that this declaration could lead to an agreement where Hungary purchases LNG from Qatar.
Szijjártó will visit Qatar on Sunday. He is scheduled to meet with the country’s minister of state for foreign affairs, minister of energy and minister of business and commerce. They will discuss developments in the oil and non-oil sectors and how Hungary could become involved. The countries’ bilateral trade increased from $40m to $60m over the past year.
