Hungaryʼs state debt hits 66.8% of GDP in Q1

Hungaryʼs gross state debt hit 66.8 percent of GDP at the end of March, down from 69.5 percent a year earlier, but up from 66.3 percent in December, according to the central bank. General government net lending totaled HUF 89bn in the first quarter of this year, while net lending by the central government totaled HUF 124bn for the three-month period. Local government lending amounted to HUF 102bn, and net borrowing of social security funds totaled HUF 137bn. The Hungarian constitution states that year-end state debt must be lowered until it’s 50 percent of GDP.
