Hungary to keep controversial bank taxes

26 November 2012

Hungary will keep its bank tax indefinitely, according to government spokesperson András Giró-Szász. The European Commission had asked Hungary to amend its legislation on special taxes imposed on the retail and telecommunications sectors. Giró-Szász said that the government has taken note of the EC’s objection and will respect every concern so long as they don’t restrict Hungary’s sovereignty. According to Giró-Szász, the government will create a simple and transparent system by 2013.
