Hungary establishes funds to help economy, fight coronavirus

The Hungarian government has established two funds that will allocate 2020 budget resources in its fight to contain the coronavirus. The Pandemic Defense Fund, totaling HUF 533bn, will cover costs related to supplies and investments as well as pay raises and bonuses for healthcare workers. The Economic Defense Fund, meanwhile, will cover workplace protection and job creation programs as well as programs for the economy’s priority sectors. The government has earmarked nearly HUF 1.346 trillion for this fund, which will also include business financing and a family and pensioner protection program.
