Three weeks after shutting down production lines, Hyundai will be opening its factory in Nošovice again on April 14. Although the plant will be running on just two shifts rather than the usual three, it makes Hyundai the first of the country’s major automobile manufacturers to resume production. The decision is good news not just for the 3,300 people who work in the factory but for the roughly 8,700 employees of Hyundai’s suppliers in the region. A spokesman for Hyundai said that while the plant usually operates on a just-in-time regime, the company would be building up an inventory of components to mitigate the risk of disruptions to its supply chain given uncertainties at the border. Plant disinfection will take place several times a
day in Nošovice and employees will have limited opportunities to gather in groups.
