IMF to review Hungarian progress in April

21 March 2012

Official talks are to be held in Hungary in April between the International Monetary Fund and the Hungarian government, which could lead to more debt-specific negotiations in May. But the bank’s visit in April has another purpose as well, as it will take place within the framework of post-program monitoring.
Although both the IMF and the government are technically ready for the talks, Gerry Rice, Director of the External Relations Department at the IMF, said last week that negotiations cannot begin until the Hungarian government takes certain steps, including changing the law governing the country’s central bank.
