InPost Group, in cooperation with Warsaw Chopin Airport, has launched a Parcel Machine for items that cannot be taken on a plane. One has to pack such an item at a designated stand and, using the InPost Mobile app, send the parcel at the Paczkomat machine, the company stated. In this way, valuable items will not end up in the bin, but will be delivered to the designated address.
The InPost machine is located in the baggage control area at the Fast Track E aisle at Chopin Airport. 62% of passengers departing from Chopin Airport declare an interest in the service of sending a retained item through the Parcel Machine, it was reported.
“Valuable items accidentally left in hand luggage can make life very difficult for travellers. They have to be thrown away or returned and put into checked-in baggage. This is not only a hassle, but also a lot of stress. Now the Parcel Machine solves this problem – you can quickly and inexpensively secure such items without prolonging check-in. This is especially important for people who are in a hurry to get on a plane and may even risk not boarding or losing the money spent on the ticket. InPost is famous for innovative ideas and services not available anywhere else. Now we will be your new airline assistant,” said InPost expansion office director Waldemar Brzoska.
The company explained that an item that fails the security check and its owner opts for the Parcel Post service will be placed in a ziplock bag and labelled accordingly. The passenger, backing out of the security check, will then be directed to the Fast Track E aisle, where, after redeeming the ‘fast track’, he or she will be able to pack the item in an appropriately sized cardboard box in a prepared area and place it in the Parcel Machine box. The parcel is sent via the InPost Mobile app. Paczkomat at Chopin Airport allows for domestic shipment to another InPost device or by courier to a specified address. Once the parcel is placed in the device, the passenger will undergo security checks already in the Fast Track area.
“Airport security screening is a responsible and difficult task. The employees in this area have to be very focused. Any item that cannot be allowed to be transported on board an aircraft is a loss for passengers. However, the rules are clear and for the safety of us all, so attempts to convince the control area operators are unsuccessful and only prolong check-in. The simple solution of sending in a Parcel Machine will be a convenience for both travellers and airport staff,” added Chopin Airport spokesperson Anna Dermont.
