Intesa, Unicredit’s biggest competitor, is set to enter the regional financial market, after getting a green light from the Polish antimonopoly office KNF on Tuesday. The Italian lender is one of the largest banks in Europe and has offices in six countries, including Serbia, Croatia and Slovakia. According to the daily Puls Biznesu, Intensa had hoped to enter Poland’s market at the beginning of the year, through the acquisitions of BZ WBK and Millenium banks. But those deals fell through.
Intensa is the fourth lender to hit the Polish market this year, following Vanquis Bank, ICBC and Bank of China.
