Is consolidation in the cards for Poland’s coal sector?

13 April 2012

Another huge deal in Poland’s coal sector could be around the corner, if Katowice Holding Węglowy fails to move quickly to issue a new bond. If it went through, the holding could take PLN 1bn from the free market, but Poland’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Tomasz Tomczykiewicz said he wouldn’t stand in the way of a back-up solution such as the company merging with Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JWS). “I do not take a stand on the matter,” said Roman Łój, chairman of Katowicki Holding Węglowy, refusing to comment until the decision will be made by the company’s general meeting.
