The Istropolis building at the Trnavske myto transport junction in Bratislava’s Nové mesto district is poised to change hands. A new owner could be announced within a month, according to the trade union organization OZ Kovo, which owns the cultural complex. Istropolis has already been targeted by potential buyers a few times in the past. Six years ago, Bratislava’s city districts tried to buy the property with plans to organize cultural events there. However, a deal was never reached, because the mayors required a guarantee that the state would cover any potential losses produced by the venue. Istropolis features a cultural hall with a capacity for 1,300 people, the largest in Slovakia. Nové mesto officials would never allow the complex to be torn down and replaced by another development, writes Trend.sk.
