It’s being reported that the owner of the Centroom project in Piešťany knew that its scheme’s had structural engineering problems shortly after its completion five years ago. Trend.sk claims, the developer Iuris decided not to conduct a complete reconstruction, hoping a more cosmetic repair job would do. The building now has cracks, bulges and unglued tiles on three floors, leading the Piešťany construction office to order it to be vacated.
Centroom includes 44 flats as well as office and retail space. It has been vacant since last week and disconnected from electricity, gas and water. The structural engineer for the project was Ján Tomčáni. Tomčáni was responsible for the structural engineering of other problematic projects, including Trinity and Apollo 1.
