Jihlava will give CZK 1.25 million for a new asylum for men. The service operated by the Christian Aid Center should move from Tchaikovsky Street to a renovated building in Mlynska Street this year. The reconstruction of the house will cost around CZK 13 million, the costs increased by more than three million during the preparation of the project subsidized by European funds. The region also asked for the contribution, its director David Chlupáček, Managing Director of Středisko křesťanské, said today.

“We tried to trim the building as much as we could,” Chlupáček said. For example, the resort renovates windows on its own. The money from the city will cover a third of the missing amount. City officials on Tuesday approved this post without discussion, no one was against. In the region, the center is applying for assistance in a comparable amount, covering the remaining third of the costs should be provided by itself.

Councilor Daniel Škarka (Jihlava Forum) told Jihlava representatives on Tuesday that, like the Christian Aid Center, the city had recently helped a regional charity with its project in Jihlava’s Žižkova Street. “When we approved the co-financing of the event due to the fact that the investment project became more expensive, especially in building materials,” he said.

The asylum house in Jihlava offers help to men who are at risk of losing their homes, in housing need or without shelter. Social workers help them integrate back into life and work. At the new address, the asylum will again have a capacity of 22 beds, but the quality of service will be significantly improved. In the current house, the men live in rooms of five or six, in Mlýnská street, each user of the service will have a small studio with space for a bed and the most necessary things and with social facilities, said the director.

Last year, there were eight asylum houses in the Vysočina region with 244 beds. This follows from the data in the document Profile of the Vysočina Region.
