The construction of a new metro station always has a profound effect on the real estate all around it, but the same is true when it’s shut down for a longer period. The Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station on the A line was built in 1980, but beginning in November, it will be closed to the public in order to allow for the old escalators to be stripped out and replaced with new ones. At CZK 1.3bn, the investment will not be cheap, but it will include the reconstruction of the entrance vestibule and a barrier-free elevator is to be installed. The station will only be closed long enough to allow the escalators to be replaced, but work at the station will continue for more than a year after it’s reopened. The city will be tendering the job over the summer.
