Jobless rate hit a record in EU countries

3 April 2012

The jobless rate rose to its highest level in February in all eurozone countries, in line with the expectations of analysts who had predicted that unemployment would reach 10.8 percent. That’s an increase of 0.1 percent January. The figure is the highest in 14 years, with the average rate for all 27 EU member countries at 10.2 percent. The highest unemployment is currently in Spain, where the rate rose further to 23.6 percent, dwarfing the current level of economic pain in Austria, where only 4.2 percent of the working population is jobless.
