A meat processing in the city of Kapuvár abruptly stopped production on Wednesday and sent its employees home. It’s unclear when it will be reopened, but the trade union is staging a protest outside the factory tomorrow. Rumors that the factory was in trouble emerged earlier this month when the factory’s president, Foltány Árpád, resigned following tax evasion charges. The factory’s closure would put at stake nearly 800 jobs at stake.
Portfolio.hu reports that a government minister said “In order to clarify the situation and protect the jobs the government will take the necessary steps and classifies both companies in the Kapuvár meat concern as highly important from national strategic aspects.”
