US car parts maker Johnson Controls broke ground on a new plant at the Strumica technological industrial development zone in eastern Macedonia. The €20m facility will produce car seat covers and upholstery. The company expects the new plant will create about 1,500 new jobs. The official groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Pesevski, Vladimir Teplik, the vice president of Johnson Controls’ global trim unit, as well as the CEO of the Directorate for Technological Industrial Development Zones, Viktor Mizo.
In 2011, Johnson Controls opened a plant in Stip, also in eastern Macedonia, which currently employs 1,700 people.
