JTI opens new production line in Serbia

Japan Tobacco International opened a new production line at its factory in northern Serbia. The new cigarette packaging line is part of the company’s $7m investment cycle. JTI has made a number of recent upgrades to this factory, including product innovation. Its Senta factory is the company’s most successful. Its global network includes 27 plants. In 2006, JTI bought Duvanska Industrija Senta. It invested more than $180m in Serbia and increased the number of its employees from 84 to 290. The company exports tobacco and cigarettes to the EU. JTI is the biggest Japanese investor in Serbia and one of the five biggest taxpayers.
