The Karlovy Vary Region has sold at auction the unnecessary building of the former Florida Youth Home in Mariánské Lázně. The building, which has been unused for years, was sold at the auction for CZK 12.1 million, although the price originally offered during the envelope method was CZK 8.6 million. According to Deputy Governor for Property Management and Investments Dalibor Blažek (Local), the sale method proved successful for the region. It will also apply it in the case of further sales.
The region originally wanted to sell the building using the envelope method, which it normally uses in sales. In this method, bids are placed in envelopes so that their value is not visible and submitted by a specific deadline. The highest bid then wins.
“We had four bidders, so we announced the envelope method. This resulted in a winner who offered CZK 8.6 million, but on the same day the second-placed bidder got in touch and offered CZK 10 million for the building,” Blažek said. The county therefore turned to the Ministry of the Interior to see if it could cancel the original selection method. “The ministry advised us to behave with due diligence, so we cancelled the original selection procedure and announced a new one by means of an auction,” the deputy added.
The intention to sell was therefore published again by the region. The condition for participation was a base price of ten million crowns. Two bidders took part and the building was sold for CZK 12.1 million, which was substantially higher than the county’s intention.
The Region also plans to sell the unnecessary boarding school in Toužim. Two bidders have already applied to convert it into a social and health facility. In this case, too, the Region is considering the auction method.
