Kaufland, Lidl modernizing stores in Slovakia

24 August 2017

Kaufland and Lidl are redesigning their supermarkets in Slovakia. Kaufland has already presented a new design for several cities, with the first to come on-line in Bratislava’s Podunajské Biskupice neighborhood, followed by the reopening of the chain’s Nove Mesto location, its largest store in the capital, which stands next to the chain’s headquarters. The modernized supermarket, stretching across 4,000 sqm, will feature open space with no partition walls. A To Go rack with fast refreshments will be located at the entrance, near the fruit and vegetable section. The chain’s traditional bistro and cafe will also be part of the entrance area, while more self-service cash desks have been added. Kaufland stores in Dunajská Streda, Prievidza, Rimavska Sobota, Malacky and Komárno have also been modernized. Meanwhile, Lidl, which plans to invest €200m into redesigning its 3,200 stores in Germany, is also introducing a new modern design in Slovakia, adding charging stations for electric bikes and cars.
